Aedes albopictus

Here is our friend Aedes albopictus, otherwise known as the Asian mosquito or the Asian Tiger Mosquito.

As you can guess, while he may feed on tigers, he really gets his name because of his tiger striping. He'll be perfectly happy to feed on you instead of the tiger.

Unfortunately for the US population and pretty much the entire North American human population, while before 1985 the little pest Aedes albopictus was altogether absent, he's now found in 26 states in the US ranging from Texas to Florida and up into the North East. The US populations of Aedes albopictus aren't yet big vectors for Chikungunya virus, but maybe if we buy enough Lucky Bamboo gifts we can change all that.

Conclusion:

Take a DEET bath.
